Without the people, there is no DK.<br>This entire law firm started on one MacBook. We\u2019ve always said \u201cdream big,\u201d but for me it wasn\u2019t just about dreaming big \u2014 it was about dreaming in a concrete, specific way. Being able to see what could actually happen.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>I never wanted this to be about one person\u2019s name. I wanted it to be about a group, about a movement, about a shared vision. I believed that would serve clients best. DK Law is about full transparency. This is a big deal \u2014 it\u2019s a big rebrand for our company.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Hi, I\u2019m Daniel Kim, founder and managing partner at DK Law, and this is Mina Kim, my better half. She\u2019s our Chief Visionary Officer. And this is the DK All the Way Podcast.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Even though we\u2019re experienced in the law, this is our first time doing a podcast. We\u2019re nervous, but excited. We\u2019ll get better with time.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<h4 class=\"wp-block-heading\">How It All Started<\/h4>\n\n\n\n<p><strong>Mina:<\/strong><br>Can you tell the story of how we even started the law firm?<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p><strong>Daniel:<\/strong><br>It started with my accident.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>At the time, you were in your first year of law school. In the middle of class, I called you in a panic \u2014 I had just been in a serious crash. You ran out of class, drove to where I was, and came to the scene.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>That accident changed everything for us.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>We hired a lawyer, and honestly, it wasn\u2019t a good experience. We didn\u2019t get updates. We didn\u2019t understand what was happening. It dragged on for over two years, all the way through law school and into the start of your career. And at the end of all of that, we were basically told, \u201cHere\u2019s $500.\u201d No explanation. No breakdown of medical bills. No transparency.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>It felt completely wrong.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p><strong>Mina:<\/strong><br>I remember thinking, \u201cHow is that possible? After years of treatment and stress, how do we walk away with $500 and no answers?\u201d I was angry, and I told you: You should do this yourself. You should handle cases the way people deserve.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p><strong>Daniel:<\/strong><br>I remember calling your mom and telling her I didn\u2019t know what to do. I had no experience, no money, nothing. And she just said, \u201cDo it. Go do it.\u201d That encouragement \u2014 from you and from her \u2014 is really why DK started.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<h4 class=\"wp-block-heading\">Starting With Nothing<\/h4>\n\n\n\n<p><strong>Mina:<\/strong><br>Let\u2019s talk about how hard it was in the beginning. People see where the firm is now, but they don\u2019t know what it took to survive those first months.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p><strong>Daniel:<\/strong><br>We had no money. There was basically nothing in our bank account. I even asked a family member if I could borrow money so we could afford basic marketing. We calculated we needed $8,000 to get started \u2014 and we didn\u2019t have $8,000.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>It was honestly heartbreaking at first, because we were trying so hard to just get something off the ground.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>We were working out of our apartment. We didn\u2019t have an office yet. We gave out an address in Anaheim that I don\u2019t even want to say out loud because it was honestly embarrassing. We were barely covering rent. It was long nights, so much uncertainty, and nonstop pressure.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>We had just had our first child. You had just passed the bar. And we were sitting there asking, \u201cDo we try to get a job somewhere, or do we take the risk and build this firm?\u201d We chose the risk.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p><strong>Mina:<\/strong><br>It got so tough financially that I actually had to take our baby to stay in Korea with family for a few months so we could save money while you tried to get the firm stable. That\u2019s how serious it was. We were literally in survival mode.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p><strong>Daniel:<\/strong><br>Yeah. That was one of the hardest parts of my life \u2014 you leaving with our baby so I could stay here, work, and try to build something from zero.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<h4 class=\"wp-block-heading\">The First Hire<\/h4>\n\n\n\n<p><strong>Mina:<\/strong><br>Do you remember when we hired our very first employee?<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p><strong>Daniel:<\/strong><br>Of course. We had no family here to help once we had our daughter, and you were about to give birth. We realized you couldn\u2019t keep doing everything alone. So, one week before our daughter was born, we hired our first employee.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>We rented one tiny office room just so that person would have somewhere to sit and work. That was the entire \u201cfirm.\u201d One room.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>From that one hire\u2026 now we\u2019re at around 350 people.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p><strong>Mina:<\/strong><br>It\u2019s wild. Back when we had 10 or 20 people, we knew everyone\u2019s name. We ate lunch together. We celebrated every birthday. As you grow, you lose some of that closeness, and honestly, I miss that sometimes. But the responsibility has also grown. It\u2019s not just \u201cour little office\u201d anymore \u2014 it\u2019s a real organization with real reach.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<h4 class=\"wp-block-heading\">Dreaming Bigger<\/h4>\n\n\n\n<p><strong>Mina:<\/strong><br>Did you ever imagine we\u2019d be here \u2014 hundreds of employees?<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p><strong>Daniel:<\/strong><br>No. No way.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>But you \u2014 and your mom \u2014 always pushed me to think bigger. You both kept telling me, \u201cDream big. You can do this.\u201d<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>I remember on weekends, when we could barely pay rent, I\u2019d take you and our son and we\u2019d drive through really nice neighborhoods in Orange County. No guarded gates \u2014 so we\u2019d just drive in. I\u2019d say, \u201cLet\u2019s look at these houses. One day we\u2019ll get here. Let\u2019s build that future.\u201d<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>That wasn\u2019t about showing off. It was about having something specific to work toward. Something real.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<h4 class=\"wp-block-heading\">Why We Rebranded as DK Law<\/h4>\n\n\n\n<p><strong>Mina:<\/strong><br>Let\u2019s talk about the rebrand. Why was it important to become \u201cDK Law\u201d?<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p><strong>Daniel:<\/strong><br>The name change was intentional.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>I wanted to build something that wasn\u2019t about one person\u2019s name. I wanted something that belonged to a team, a movement, and a shared vision. DK Law represents that.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>For me, the core is transparency. A lot of injured clients feel like their lawyer just disappears. They\u2019re left in the dark. They don\u2019t know what\u2019s happening with their case. They don\u2019t get updates. Sometimes, the silence hurts more than the injury.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>DK Law is built to end that silence.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>We want clients to see every step. See what\u2019s happening. Feel heard. Get real answers.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p><strong>Mina:<\/strong><br>And it\u2019s not just about growth inside the firm anymore. We\u2019ve become something bigger than a small office. We\u2019re part of the community. \u201cAll the Way\u201d isn\u2019t just about how we treat cases \u2014 it\u2019s also about giving back.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>We\u2019re involved in community programs, charity events, local drives, helping families who need support. We want to serve people who are underserved. That\u2019s part of this identity too.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<h4 class=\"wp-block-heading\">Where We\u2019re Going Next<\/h4>\n\n\n\n<p><strong>Daniel:<\/strong><br>Looking ahead 5 to 10 years, I see two things:<\/p>\n\n\n\n<ol class=\"wp-block-list\">\n<li>Expanding nationally.<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Expanding into other practice areas.<\/li>\n<\/ol>\n\n\n\n<p>And we\u2019re doing it differently. DK Law is technology-centered. The legal field and the tech world are merging fast. AI, automation, data \u2014 that\u2019s the future.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>I keep thinking: In 10 or 15 years, people are going to look back at how law was traditionally practiced and say, \u201cThat was from the dinosaur era.\u201d I don\u2019t want us to be dinosaurs. I want us to build like it\u2019s already 10 years from now.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>We\u2019re already hiring engineers alongside legal talent. We\u2019re designing systems for communication, transparency, and speed. That\u2019s not normal in law \u2014 but it\u2019s where this industry is going.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<h4 class=\"wp-block-heading\">The Hardest Part<\/h4>\n\n\n\n<p><strong>Mina:<\/strong><br>What has been the most difficult part of this journey for you?<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p><strong>Daniel:<\/strong><br>People. Relationships.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>When we first started, we had no family support network here. We were alone. We tried so hard to build real friendships, real trust, and sometimes that trust got broken.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>We went through betrayal \u2014 even by people we considered close. That hurt more than the money problems, honestly.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>But on the other side of that, we\u2019ve met some incredible people. Right now, I\u2019m more confident about our future than I\u2019ve ever been, because of the people who are here today. We have some of the sharpest minds I\u2019ve ever seen in my life. The good outweighed the bad, and that\u2019s why we\u2019ve made it this far.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p><strong>Mina:<\/strong><br>Exactly. There were people who made things incredibly hard, but there were even more people who believed, stayed, and built this with us. That\u2019s why we\u2019re here.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>I used to feel lonely. I don\u2019t anymore. We\u2019re surrounded by a team we trust. I\u2019m grateful for that \u2014 and grateful we get to do this in California with our team.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<h4 class=\"wp-block-heading\">What It All Means<\/h4>\n\n\n\n<p><strong>Mina:<\/strong><br>When you think about the past, the present, and the future \u2014 what does it mean to you?<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p><strong>Daniel:<\/strong><br>The past is where we learned.<br>The present is something I\u2019m really trying to appreciate and stay present in.<br>The future is hope.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>I believe our people are going to be movers and shakers in this industry. I believe we\u2019re going to create a positive ripple effect \u2014 not just in legal results, but in real lives. Community events, outreach, helping people who don\u2019t have a voice \u2014 that matters to me.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<h4 class=\"wp-block-heading\">Final Message to Clients and the Community<\/h4>\n\n\n\n<p><strong>Daniel:<\/strong><br>Here\u2019s what I want people to know:<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>When I say I\u2019m on your side, I mean it. We\u2019re a team of incredibly resourceful people, and when we take on a case, we listen to your story. We make sure it\u2019s told the right way. We fight for you.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>We want to be the people you can lean on, the people you can trust, the people who will actually show you what\u2019s happening \u2014 not just tell you, \u201cDon\u2019t worry about it.\u201d<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>For me, this is bigger than the practice of law. That\u2019s why I joined the military \u2014 it was never about me. It was about service and protecting people. Now I\u2019m using the platform of this firm to keep doing that: serving the public, standing up for people who need help, and giving back to the community.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p><strong>Mina:<\/strong><br>That\u2019s who we are.
