The insurance coverage covers up to $1,000,000 in damages, including any passenger or other third-party injuries. However, it is important to understand how <a href=\"https:\/\/legiscan.com\/CA\/text\/SB371\/id\/3269031\">California&#8217;s SB 371<\/a>, effective January 1, 2026, affects the broader coverage picture. <\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>While the $1 million liability limit remains intact when the Lyft driver is at fault, SB 371 significantly reduced the uninsured\/underinsured motorist (UM\/UIM) coverage Lyft is required to carry during an active trip \u2014 dropping from $1 million to $60,000 per person and $300,000 per incident. This means that if a third-party driver with little or no insurance causes the crash, the compensation available through Lyft&#8217;s UM\/UIM policy may fall well short of covering serious injuries.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Given the reduced limits under SB 371, passengers and drivers are strongly encouraged to review their own personal auto insurance policies.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<h3 class=\"wp-block-heading\">Coverage for Lyft Drivers<\/h3>\n\n\n\n<p>Lyft drivers have their own personal auto insurance that covers their vehicle in addition to&nbsp;<a href=\"https:\/\/www.caranddriver.com\/car-insurance\/a36148122\/lyft-insurance\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">commercial insurance through Lyft<\/a>.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Lyft drivers involved in Lyft accidents can utilize their own personal injury protection coverage that they have on their personal auto insurance policy.
