In 48 states, including California, it is illegal to operate a vehicle with a blood alcohol concentration (BAC) of 0.08% or higher for those 21 years or older. However, the law varies considerably for certain groups of drivers, including the following:&nbsp;<\/p>\n\n\n\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list is-style-arrow-list\">\n<li>Commercial vehicle drivers: 0.04% or higher<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Drivers under 21 years old: 0.01% or higher\u00a0<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Drivers on DUI probation or with a prior DUI conviction within 10 years: 0.01% or higher\u00a0<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n\n\n\n<p>If law enforcement officers suspect that a driver is impaired by alcohol or drugs, they can ask the driver to take a breathalyzer test and a field sobriety test.
