They are caused by a wide variety of factors.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<h3 class=\"wp-block-heading\">Injury<\/h3>\n\n\n\n<p>These types of crashes are anything that causes physical and\/or emotional harm\u2013whether minor or major. It\u2019s important to note that injuries sustained can range from mild to catastrophic to life-threatening.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<h3 class=\"wp-block-heading\">Minor<\/h3>\n\n\n\n<p>Standard crashes that result in minor vehicle damage include fender benders or sideswiping. Additionally, these accidents do not cause the parties involved any physical harm. The most recent car accident data available is from 2019, but there is more complete data from earlier years.<\/p>\n\n<\/div><\/div>\n\n<div class=\"dklaw-toc__block align wp-block-dklaw-toc-block\"><div class=\"acf-innerblocks-container\">\n\n<h2 class=\"wp-block-heading\">2019 Car Accidents in California Stats<\/h2>\n\n\n\n<p>2019 saw a total of&nbsp;<a href=\"https:\/\/www.iihs.org\/topics\/fatality-statistics\/detail\/state-by-state\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">3,606 traffic fatalities<\/a>, for an average of 9.13 deaths per 100,000 people. While this is rather high, it was actually a decrease from previous years. Also, the stats are less than the 2019 US rate of 11 traffic fatalities per 100,000 people.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>The number of fatal car accidents in Los Angeles County was the worst in the state. In fact, car accident statistics for LA in 2019 were 685 traffic fatalities. This equates to an average of approximately 6.8 deaths per 100,000 people.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Aside from that, the latest crash data available for California only comes from 2018 and only pertains to state highways. In 2018, there were a total of 152,581 crashes on California freeways, resulting in 47,007 injuries and 757 fatalities.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Unfortunately,&nbsp;<a href=\"https:\/\/www.vox.com\/22675358\/us-car-deaths-year-traffic-covid-pandemic\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">preliminary data<\/a>&nbsp;from 2020 and 2021 show that car accidents have been skyrocketing and seem to be heading towards the highest levels in years.<\/p>\n\n<\/div><\/div>\n\n<div class=\"dklaw-toc__block align wp-block-dklaw-toc-block\"><div class=\"acf-innerblocks-container\">\n\n<h2 class=\"wp-block-heading\">What Are Your Chances of Getting Involved in a Crash?<\/h2>\n\n\n\n<figure class=\"wp-block-image size-large\"><img decoding=\"async\" src=\"https:\/\/dklaw.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2025\/06\/truck-accident-1024x683.jpg\" alt=\"car and truck on the road\"\/><\/figure>\n\n\n\n<p>Since 2008, an estimated 1 out of every 143 Californians has been injured in a car accident.
