Known as the \u2018100 Deadliest Days\u2019 \u2013 the period between Memorial Day and Labor Day \u2013 this is when fatal teen car accidents increase dramatically. Yet there are risks for all drivers during summer, and it\u2019s important to know the factors in order to stay safe. Find out the reasons why driving in the summer is riskier than driving in winter.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<h3 class=\"wp-block-heading\">More Drivers On the Road<\/h3>\n\n\n\n<p>An easy explanation for the increase in summer car accidents is that there are simply more people on the road. Domestic vacations and staycations increased during the COVID-19 pandemic and remain high today. Families taking summer vacations and road trips, kids out of school, and pleasant weather all contribute to higher traffic during the summer and more traffic accidents. Los Angeles, which has the\u00a0<a href=\"https:\/\/www.foxla.com\/news\/los-angeles-drivers-commute-traffic-hours-worst-corridor\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">second most-congested corridor<\/a>\u00a0in the U.S., experiences a high volume of visitors and residents traveling to escape the heat, either heading to the beach or up north. The best way to avoid congested roads is to avoid driving during peak rush hour.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<h3 class=\"wp-block-heading\">Drunk Driving\u00a0<\/h3>\n\n\n\n<p>Drunk driving accidents and fatalities spike in the summer, especially during holidays like Memorial Day,&nbsp;<a href=\"https:\/\/dklaw.com\/the-fine-print\/impaired-driving-crashes-increase-on-fourth-of-july\/\">4th of July<\/a>, and Labor Day. According to MoneyGeek\u2019s analysis,&nbsp;<a href=\"https:\/\/www.moneygeek.com\/resources\/most-dangerous-dui-days\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">28%<\/a>&nbsp;of DUI-related deaths from 2018 to 2022 happened in the summer. Multiple reports also show that Saturday and Sunday are the two days with the most DUIs. Drinking alcohol and getting behind the wheel leads to an increased risk of car accident injuries and death. Sun glare is also a major concern during the summer and can impair your visibility. This is one of the top reasons why summer is the most dangerous time to drive on the road.
