Unfortunately, it is also one of California\u2019s most congested cities. In 2022, the average San Diegan<a href=\"https:\/\/fox5sandiego.com\/traffic\/the-10-us-cities-where-drivers-face-the-worst-traffic-delays\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">&nbsp;lost 54 hours<\/a>&nbsp;to traffic.&nbsp;<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Deadly traffic accidents are also on the rise. Fifty deaths were reported in the San Diego region in 2023 alone. Many of these tragic deaths involve bicyclists or pedestrians. Not surprisingly, many of these accidents occur on roads with heavy traffic and highways where motorists speed.\u00a0<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>If you drive, bike, or walk in the city, you should know the most dangerous intersections, roads, and highways and which ones to avoid.&nbsp;<\/p>\n\n<\/div><\/div>\n\n<div class=\"dklaw-toc__block align wp-block-dklaw-toc-block\"><div class=\"acf-innerblocks-container\">\n\n<h2 class=\"wp-block-heading\">Dangerous San Diego Intersections<\/h2>\n\n\n\n<p>Circulate San Diego, a local nonprofit that promotes pedestrian safety, Safe Routes to School, and other initiatives, named these&nbsp;<a href=\"https:\/\/assets.nationbuilder.com\/circulatesd\/pages\/7427\/attachments\/original\/1714421310\/4-29-24_Fix_The_Fatal_Fifteen_-_Circulate_May_Revise_Letter1.pdf?1714421310\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">15 intersections<\/a>&nbsp;the \u201cFatal 15\u201d based on the large number of traffic accidents.&nbsp;<\/p>\n\n\n\n<ol class=\"wp-block-list is-style-arrow-list\">\n<li>Clairemont Mesa Blvd. and Doliva Dr.\u00a0<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Rosecrans St. and Moore St.<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>University Ave. and Alabama St.<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Federal Blvd. and Euclid Ave.\u00a0<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Mira Mesa Blvd. and Black Mountain Rd.<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Mira Mesa Blvd. and Aderman Ave.<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Westview Pkwy. and Mira Mesa Blvd.<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Palm Ave. and 16th St.\u00a0<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Imperial Ave. and 26th St.<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Market St. and 19th St.<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>University Ave. and 44th St.<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>University Ave. and College Ave.\u00a0<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>El Cajon Blvd. and 46th St.<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>El Cajon Blvd. and Altadena Ave.<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>El Cajon Blvd. and 60th St.<\/li>\n<\/ol>\n\n\n\n<p>The city of San Diego has been working to improve the safety of these intersections by implementing various measures, such as installing new signs, signals, and markings, upgrading pedestrian ramps and refuges, adding bike lanes and sidewalks, and reducing speed limits. Yet, there is still more work to be done to achieve Vision Zero\u2019s goal of eliminating all traffic deaths and serious injuries by 2025.&nbsp;<\/p>\n\n<\/div><\/div>\n\n<div class=\"dklaw-toc__block align wp-block-dklaw-toc-block\"><div class=\"acf-innerblocks-container\">\n\n<h2 class=\"wp-block-heading\">More Deadly Roads and Highways in San Diego County\u00a0<\/h2>\n\n\n\n<figure class=\"wp-block-image size-large\"><img decoding=\"async\" src=\"https:\/\/dklaw.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2024\/02\/iStock-1497263496.jpg\" alt=\"San Diego freeways\"\/><\/figure>\n\n\n\n<p>According to a&nbsp;<a href=\"https:\/\/www.moneygeek.com\/insurance\/auto\/resources\/most-deadly-roads-california\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">MoneyGeek<\/a>&nbsp;report, these are the deadliest roads in the San Diego metro area.&nbsp;<\/p>\n\n\n\n<h3 class=\"wp-block-heading\">Interstate 15 from Miramar Way to Scripps Poway Parkway\u00a0<\/h3>\n\n\n\n<p>The stretch of I-15 from Miramar Way to Scripps Poway Parkway was the deadliest road in San Diego County and ranked 12th in the state for fatalities, according to MoneyGeek. Many of the reported accidents on this highway are due to excessive speeding.&nbsp;<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>As one of the busiest interstate highways, I-15 connects major cities and regions across the western United States, from the Mexican border up to Canada. Many people traveling to and from Mexico pass through San Diego on the I-15, making it one of the most congested highways in the state.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<h3 class=\"wp-block-heading\">Interstate 5 from Exit 2 to Exit 7B<\/h3>\n\n\n\n<p>This stretch of the I-5 freeway, beginning near the U.S.-Mexico border, sees some of the most motor vehicle accidents in San Diego:&nbsp;<\/p>\n\n\n\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list is-style-arrow-list\">\n<li>San Ysidro Blvd to Marina Pkwy in Chula Vista<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n\n\n\n<p>Like the I-15, many car accidents on the I-5 are caused by speeding and alcohol-impaired drivers. The highways are wide-open and straight, meaning drivers frequently rev up their engines to over 100 miles per hour. This section cuts through central San Diego and includes high-traffic areas near Balboa Park, downtown, and Barrio Logan.
